RESULTS OF 1ST ASF WEANLING FUTURITY
The first ever Africa Saddle Horse Futurity in South Arica, which took place during the Middelburg (Eastern Cape) Show in March 2011, lived up to the hype, anticipation and great expectations with exhibitors traveling form afar as Dundee in KZN and Gauteng to participate. George and Bettie Borcherds, the organisers, made sure that Middelburg Show's hospitality would be remembered long after the show!
To ensure transparency and fairness, five judges were used to judge the class. C.J. du Plessis, Tommy van Staden, Francois van der Merwe, Johan Kotze and Johnny Murdoch had their work cut out with the judging.
There was a preliminary class, Friday night, where 10 were selected to show again on Saturday morning in the Championship.
There was no front line to influence the judges, but they could judge horses head to head, which they in fact did with 4 of the entries.
Congratulations to all the participants and ribbon winners! It was clear from the discussion afterwards that Middelburg and its people played an important part in writing Saddlebred History with this 1st ASF Weanling Futurity Championship.
